Only a few times in your professional career will you have the chance to contribute to the United States’ World Heritage program. This is one of those moments. For the first time in almost a decade, the National Park Service (NPS) is revising the US World Heritage Tentative List, by law the sole inventory from which future US World Heritage nominations can be made.
As part of a broader stakeholder engagement process, NPS has asked US/ICOMOS to structure an expert consultation to help assist with this revision. US/ICOMOS is a US historic preservation nonprofit whose mission includes both supporting the UNESCO World Heritage program and promoting international exchange in the culture heritage field. You can learn more about us here: usicomos.org.
We are reaching out to you because of your knowledge of US cultural heritage resources and interest in world heritage.
The objective of this Consultation is to provide a platform for an inter-disciplinary conversation that will identify and prioritize themes in US cultural resources that fill gaps identified in the World Heritage List.
There are many heritage themes that could be addressed to fill gaps. We need your help to identify these. To start, visit our dedicated consultation website: http://consultation.usicomos.org/wp-login.php?action=register
After logging in and reading the directions, you will be able to fill out a short survey. We hope though that you will also join one or more moderated professional Discussions, and then check back often to follow the on-line discourse and contribute further.
While participation is by invitation only, we welcome your suggestions as to other qualified colleagues whom we could also invite to the conversation. To suggest a colleague or if you have any questions, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Yours in heritage,
Executive Director, US/ICOMOS
